There's nothing that guitarists and bassists seem to love as much as the vacuum tube... and while tube amps are great at being tube amps (you can't fight the tautology), they aren't the be-all/end-all of amplification. It's not a popular position to take, but the tube has its limitations, and over-hyping it actually serves to make gear worse, not better.
