Like all right-thinking people, I love Weird Al Yankovic-- I grew up with him-- but I was as shocked as anyone when he stepped out in front of the record companies and landed a #1 album for his trouble. Weird Al has gone independent, and he's got a demonstrably better handle on the future of how people access, enjoy, and buy music than the record labels that once held his contract.
I couldn't be happier: if anyone's going to leave the labels in the dust, it may as well be Weird Al.
